The photon is said to mediate/carry the EM force.
Quantum Chromadynamics:
Just like how atoms have electric charges, in order to conserve the Paul's exclusion principle ( spins ), we must increase the number of quarks by three-fold by introducing color.
Though we can never see the individual coloured quarks because they are always tightly binded together. Even if we try to separate them, all it does is create more quarks. The concept of only being able to see colourless bounded together quarks is called confinement.
